“Everything to Me” now on iTunes

Liz Phair’s new single, “Everything to Me,” can now be downloaded from iTunes. It was allegedly available August 2, but it wasn’t showing up in their system until now.

And for once, their (free) Single of the Week is pretty good: “Face Down” by the Katie Todd Band is by a band I’ve never heard of, but it’s a nice slow pop/rock tune.

  • Billboard has the lowdown on the tour to support “Somebody’s Miracle.”
  • Now Playing reviews Liz at the Troubadour in Los Angeles.

  • Wait on Sin City

    Holy crap.

The “real one” version of Sin City sounds worth waiting on. (I didn’t see it in the theaters for reasons that remain murky, even to me.)

Collectable covers notwithstanding, I’m a little perplexed at why the studio would put out this version now, unless there was just no chance to get any of the extras prepared, but it’s not like they haven’t had months and months to work on it.

In any case, yoinking it off the Netflix list now. It’s not like I don’t have enough stuff on the list as-is. (The MyNetflix mod not correctly limiting the results to 10 films is making me strongly reconsider having the list on the site at all.)

    New glasses, part two

At long last, I’m using 100 percent new glasses, instead of squinting when not wearing sunglasses while I wait for these to arrive.

    OUT WITH THE OLD:
    My old glasses

My old glasses are a pair of “ESQ by” something that starts with an R, but is just a squiggle. Google is no help, so it’ll have to remain a mystery. They were from a swanky glasses shop in Studio City a few years ago, but for all that they looked good initially, the tips of the stems both snapped off and the anti-scratch coating apparently came with a warranty that, when it expired, all bets were off.

    IN WITH THE NEW:
    My new glasses

The new frames are from Sergio Tacchini and are my first foray into truly rimless frames. We’ll see how it goes. Unlike the sunglasses, with their curved lenses, these took the new prescription in earnest and my vision is sharper than it’s been in ages. I feel like Superman, other than finding Lois Lane really annoying and not at all attractive.

If you missed what my new sunglasses look like, click here. Hopefully it won’t take five years to get my next prescription and new glasses.

    Under the knife, the scar

For those of you asking, the biopsy scar is healing nicely:

    The biopsy scar

The scar tissue is still a little stiff, so at times I yawn or laugh or whatever and can feel it stubbornly not flexing and stretching like my neck normally does. But as a whole, it’s not intrusive to me, although it surely seems to distract other people, since it’s visible with any open-necked button-up shirt.

Daily Press publisher addresses Hesperia Chamber of Commerce

Stephan Wingert, left, talks to Councilwoman Rita Vogler, Hesperia Chamber of Commerce Vice-President Eric Schroder and Hesperia City Manager Mike Podegracz

We just got back from the Hesperia Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon in Foremost Healthcare’s ballroom. This time, the guest speaker was Stephan Wingert, the publisher of the Daily Press, Hesperia Star, Desert Dispatch and La Prensa del Mojave. Being in the news biz, Stephan came armed with a fairly newsy presentation, and he played to one of the more packed houses that I’ve seen at a chamber luncheon. (Lunch was meatloaf, mashed potatoes, cooked carrots and chocolate pudding.)

According to Stephan, there are some changes in the works for the Daily Press, in response to what advertisers want and what polling data says that readers are looking for. The changes — which will be mentioned in an article I’ll have for the August 23rd Star on Stephan’s presentation (he IS the boss, after all) — have already started, but will be kicking into high gear in September.

The audience was fairly loaded with people interested in the High Desert’s newspapers, and we heard some nice feedback one-on-one from Hesperia Star readers, so that was nice.
