Victory at Wikipedia

After a threatened deletion and a bunch of edits, the Women in Refrigerators entry has settled down, is now factually accurate and still contains a brief homage to the late Rob Harris. (It’s annoying that Wikipedia spells “Web site” wrong, though.)

Thanks for all the hard work, Fred!

  1. Thanks Beau! I will do a ‘final’ (as final as they can be on Wikipedia) copyedit later on, to clean it up and make it readable. I’m thinking about writing the woefully missing CBR entry, too.

  2. Nice to see this all finally got resolved. What a hassle.

  3. I assume your preferred spelling is “website”, which is what’s listed in the leave a comment section of each of your articles, about a half inch above where I’m typing right now. Which is good, of course, because the contracted form is correct, no matter what your fancy Communications degree might lead you to believe.

  4. If it’s not in the AP Stylebook, I don’t believe it!

  5. The Associated Press Stylebook, Page 278:

World Wide Web or the Web. A service, or set of standards, that enables the publishing of multimedia documents on the Internet. The Web is not the same as the Internet, but is a subset; other applications, such as e-mail, exist on the Internet.

It is generally credited as the concept of researcher Tim Berners-Lee who developed the first practical system in 1989 at the European Laboratory for Particle Physics (Conseil Europeen pour la Recherche Nucleaire, or CERN).

Also Web site (an exception to Webster’s first listing), and Web page.

    But webcam, webcast, webmaster.

    My allegiance is clear.
