SPJ winners’ names trickle out
The first few winners of 2006 SPJ Excellence in Journalism award winners have begun to be announced over on the SPJ message board. Bill Norris has begun to publish the names as they come in from the judges.
As usual, the Riverside Press-Enterprise has seemingly half the awards to themselves, but the Hesperia Star, Daily Press and Desert Dispatch have staff members who have picked up awards as well, and no doubt more folks’ names will be added to the list in the next week or two as well.

Does being invited to the banquet mean you won an award? If so, congratulations!
If not, you should, like, take an entire roast beef from the carving station for yourself and eat it throughout the dinner. If anyone gives you trouble, you just look ’em square in the eye and say, “you got your awards, I got mine, so back off.” Then chew emphatically, so that your jaw muscles poke out from your cheeks.

Yeah! Glad to see you are the first name from your area. A shoe-in, as they say.

Thanks, guys.
And yes, they only invite people who’ve won something. What I’ve won, I don’t know. I suspect it’s not for Home Alone, since Stuart Kellogg’s name was up days before mine was, and he only works on feature stories, and I submitted the story in that super-crowded field.
We’ll see in May.
