100 Word Stories

I found the “100 Words” book when I was Googling the 100 Word Stories Web site, after hearing it mentioned on Grammar Girl this week.

It’s a neat idea for a site: Write exactly 100 word stories each weekday. It’s harder than you might think. I’ve tried it once or twice and it takes real effort to trim it down that much and still have something worth reading at the end. Hemingway would be proud, I’m sure.

I kind of like my piece I put in the comments section today, which is inspired by my dad’s taste in music.

  2. Stunning (tiny) bit of work. I liked it a lot.
Sort of like a Haiku but less obscure and ethereal.
This could be the beginning of an entire new genre.
How many others will pick up this very disciplined format?
As a silly variation, could do it the deed squarely.
You know, ten words per line and exactly ten lines.
It might be a bit too studied but maybe not.
In any case, thanks for your always very interesting blog.
Expressing your ideas in one hundred words takes some planning.
Is this up to one hundred words yet? Just right.
