Avril Lavigne’s “Girlfriend”
Shameful admission of the week: I really like Avril Lavigne’s “Girlfriend.” There may be more chicks rocking nowadays — which is great, and I love it — but so many of them are so damn dour. This song is catchy, fun and full of attitude and there’s that whole Toni Basil thing she does near the end.
I know: I’m like a 12 year old girl. I don’t know how the hell that happened.

Heh. I don’t know how many spins it gets on the radio down there, but up here–with our Canadian Content broadcast rules–it’s in heavy, heavy rotation on the Top 40 stations. I’ll admit I found it kind of catchy and fun the first few times I listened to it, but after having heard it at least once an hour every day at work, its charm has warn off just a tad. Everyone collectively groans every time it comes on, now.
In contrast, though, most of the singles off Nelly Furtado’s latest album are played at least as often, and none of them have gotten old for me, yet.

Just wait ’til your kids born. your inner child will literally explode to the fore…
Gone will be humming Liz Phair songs to yourself. It’ll be ‘The Wheels on the Bus’, or ‘Dora the Explorer’. Worst of all you won’t even know you’re doing until Jenn points it out 😉

Gwen Stefani called, she wants her music back.

Gwen Stefani hasn’t rocked for a while, old man. She’s now J.Lo on helium, which I’m sure must have seemed like a good idea at the time.

Of all my friends, I expect you, Beau, to have a fully realized music loving kid…
On that subject… Learn to love They Might Be Giants, and for the Love of All Things Good get your kid started early on the classics… and by that I mean the Beatles. Conor’s #1 song requested on my iPod? The Walrus. He recognizes AC/DC, the Police, Pink Floyd, and Rush as well.
(#2 on the iPod? Death Cab’s “Soul Meets Body”… long story…)

My point exactly.
This happens to us all around the time of the birth of our child… we get some silly notion that hot 18 year old rock girls would find us attractive if they only took the time to know us. It’s OK. You are living the dream babay!

If I go much younger than Jenn, I’ll be running afoul of all sorts of laws.

Those earrings aren’t nearly large enough for that.
